Today we’re staying in Psalms 33. I told you we’d camp out here a little while, and that’s where we are. I’m reading verses 16 and 17 New Living Translation. It says:
“The best-equipped army cannot save a king, nor is great strength enough to save a warrior. Don’t count on your warhorse to give you victory—for all its strength, it cannot save you.”
Now this is one that I have really struggled with over the years. We think we need all this equipment, all these tools, and we’ll say, “I got to get this new truck. I got to get this new car in order to effectively do my job.” We justify it. What do we do? We talk to our accountant, and we justify by putting our logo on it. “Yes, we need that.” We think we have to have that new building or that shiny, new office, that that’s going to fix our business.
For me, what I’ve been dealing with recently was a website. I was all hung up on getting this website fixed, and I tried different people to help me. Finally, I stumbled across Amber. She does websites for business coaches, and she coached me through the website. I was getting hung up on maybe getting some changes. That’s how I am. I like that bright, shiny, new object. When I see something new, I’m always going for it. Finally, she just kind of slapped my wrist one day, and she said, “Look. Don’t worry about the website. The most important thing about your website is your content. If you have good content, good information that’s adding value to people, they’re going to come.”

These are all warhorses. These are all the warhorses he’s talking about here that says, “You can have the best-equipped army, you can have the best warhorses, but don’t count on those—for their strength is not going to save you.”
This is just one example of an issue I’ve dealt with recently. Did you know that the average business owner wrestles with about 136 issues at the same time? What we found in the system that I teach is to the degree that we can strengthen and focus these six key components of your business, those 136 issues just kind of fall into place because they’re actually symptoms of the root cause.
What are those six key components?
- Vision. That’s getting 100% on the same page with where you’re going and how you’re going to get there.
- People. We’re looking at getting the right people in the right seats. Also, we have ways of analyzing that.
- Data – what gets measured. You got to measure things, and everybody has to have a number.
- Issue. We have a great tool that helps you solve issues because the degree that you can solve your issues in your business, that’s the level of success that you can achieve.
- Process. This is a component which a lot of us entrepreneurs don’t like doing. It’s too cumbersome. We have a way of putting your process, your unique way of doing business so everybody can do it the same way, and it’s followed by all.
- Finally, we have traction because vision without traction and without implementing, we call it hallucination. Traction is putting the rubber to the road, putting this in place, executing the vision, having the team execute, and it works like magic. With that, we have these rocks, which are your goals. We also implement an awesome weekly meeting system.
We only use 20 tools to focus on these six components of your business. We run out after two years, and that’s our goal. Our goal is to work ourselves out of your company. We don’t want to be consultants hanging around all the time. We do have some companies that want us to stay around. They like us being there every quarter to facilitate their meetings. That’s what we do. We are just professional implementers that facilitate. The answer is always in your room, and we just facilitate and get that out of you.
These 20 tools are simple, and that’s what I love about this system. I tried so many systems myself over the years, and I would always get bogged down by the complexity of them. These tools are simple, they’re easy to implement. It just takes the discipline in doing that, and they’re extremely effective. They’re timeless. Those are some tools.

What I’m getting at is you can get all focused on all this equipment to make you more productive, make your company more productive and more efficient, but if you don’t have the right systems in place, all you’re going to do is exacerbate your problems. Maybe it’s an order and fulfillment problem or a delivery problem. Yes, you make an order of the equipment, but if you don’t have the right people executing on that vision that you want, it’s just going to get worse. It’s not the answer. It’s that it’s not always your equipment. That’s why God’s Word has got so much wisdom in here. That’s just what He said. “Don’t count on this warhorse to give you victory. It can’t save you.”
Now, from the approach I’m going with this, the ultimate key to success is all in God’s hands. It’s His business. It’s not yours. It’s just ours to steward.
Father, we see shiny objects all the time, and we’re constantly bombarded by advertisements and people trying to show us and sell us equipment and different things. Lord, we just ask that we will humble ourselves and take some time and just let You speak to us. Show us what needs fixing. If it really is equipment, do we really need to buy that equipment or do we need to spend some time getting down deeper and fixing the organizational system.
Father, I just ask that you help us with that and give us the discipline and the courage to move forward in making those changes and do the things that we need to do so we can build that great business, so we can multiply your impact on the world and bring your glory. That’s what it’s all about at the end anyway. In Jesus’ name, amen.
