“The poor man died and was carried by the angels to sit beside Abraham at the feast in heaven. The rich man died and was buried,”
Luke 16:22 GNT
A glimpse of what it’s like right now for those who have died in Christ? Feasting in heaven!
The best steak you’ve ever had? You thinking of it now?
It will taste SO MUCH better!
And guess what?
You’ll get to enjoy as much of your favorite desert after as you want!
Now think about those special meals you’ve had with loved ones in the past. Maybe it was that one Thanksgiving when everyone got along? Or Christmas Eve?
Your sweet grandma is there.
Your father who died of cancer when you were young. Wow! He looks so strong and good!
Your child who left this world too soon is there, playing in the beautiful field with a lion, a monkey. She hops on a stallion and gallops around. She’s laughing that laugh you always imagined but never got to hear in this life. She’s wearing the dress you always wanted her to wear…
Jesus walks up from behind, puts his hand on your shoulder, smiles at you and says, “I know it was hard, but I told you it would be worth it. You handled it so well. I told you it would be hard. It was so hard for the Father when He lost me.”
“Now, enjoy your feast! Oh make sure you go to the dance floor after! Several angels and I will be partying for this guy in Birmingham who just joined the kingdom while in prison! Turns out, that young man who shared me with him was because you were once his teacher, his coach, and you were the only father figure in his life! Your influence and the way you represented me did that! Well done! You get to stay in the Oceanside suite for that one! Just wait till you hear the worship at the parrrrtayyyy!!!”
You really can’t remember or think of anyone you knew whose not there because God has erased that from your memory.
It’s like you’ve ALWAYS been there!!!
It’s really overwhelming to take the goodness and joy of it all in!!!
Now here’s a glimpse of the other side…
“and in Hades, where he was in great pain, he looked up and saw Abraham, far away, with Lazarus at his side. So he called out, ‘Father Abraham! Take pity on me, and send Lazarus to dip his finger in some water and cool off my tongue, because I am in great pain in this fire!’ But Abraham said, ‘Remember, my son, that in your lifetime you were given all the good things, while Lazarus got all the bad things. But now he is enjoying himself here, while you are in pain. Besides all that, there is a deep pit lying between us, so that those who want to cross over from here to you cannot do so, nor can anyone cross over to us from where you are.’ The rich man said, ‘Then I beg you, father Abraham, send Lazarus to my father’s house, where I have five brothers. Let him go and warn them so that they, at least, will not come to this place of pain.’ Abraham said, ‘Your brothers have Moses and the prophets to warn them; your brothers should listen to what they say.’ The rich man answered, ‘That is not enough, father Abraham! But if someone were to rise from death and go to them, then they would turn from their sins.’ But Abraham said, ‘If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone were to rise from death.’””
Luke 16:23-31 GNT
Not pretty at all…
I think the envy, misery, and jealousy that we sometimes experience during this life will be magnified for those in Hell. Part of their misery will be them forever seeing how great those who followed Jesus have it! The regret, like the rich man, will be unbearable!
Thank you Jesus for rescuing me! It’s worth living for you! My this renew my efforts and desire to bring others into your kingdom!!! In the risen saviors name, AMEN!
