“David said to the Philistine: “You come against me with a sword, spear, and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord of Armies, the God of the ranks of Israel — you have defied him. Today, the Lord will hand you over to me. Today, I’ll strike you down, remove your head, and give the corpses of the Philistine camp to the birds of the sky and the wild creatures of the earth. Then all the world will know that Israel has a God, and this whole assembly will know that it is not by sword or by spear that the Lord saves, for the battle is the Lord’s. He will hand you over to us.””
1 Samuel 17:45-47 CSB
I’m not sure the text does the emotions of this confrontation justice here. I envision it more like this…
“TODAY, I’LL STRIKE YOU DOWN, REMOVE YOUR HEAD, AND GIVE THE CORPSES OF THE PHILISTINE CAMP TO THE BIRDS…!!!”
Because David emphatically believed it would happen!
Why was he the only one who believed?
How could he believe?
You’ve heard me talk about my past negativity and my nickname “The Electron” as a result of being so negative.
One of the most impactful books I’ve ever read has been the classic “Power of Positive Thinking” by Norman Vincent Peale”. My copy is highlighted and marked up, and I try to return to it every year for review. (In fact, I think I’ll dust it off and review it this week).
That’s what David is doing today.
He’s speaking out loud what he’s visualizing.
He’s doing what this former high school dropout turned Successful Entrepreneur does, speaking life over who she really is:
Visualization can be so powerful, especially when you combine it with faith!
Here’s a really good article about how an elite athlete credits visualization for a lot of his success:
I love this quote from the article! Notice how he attacks his days by getting up early too!
“I have been able to accomplish some amazing things because every Sunday I write down the goals that I want to accomplish in every aspect of my life. I map out my vision and accomplishments for the week and I break it into days. Monday is the day I attack the most. I get up early on Monday because it sets the tone for the rest of the week—my mindset, my productivity, my efficiency. Monday is the day I create momentum.”
It’s all about our mindset as it was with David!
Put the power of faith plus visualization into practice so you can slay your giants!
