“When one of them discovered that he was healed, he came back, shouting praises to God. He bowed down at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. The man was from the country of Samaria. Jesus asked, “Weren’t ten men healed? Where are the other nine? Why was this foreigner the only one who came back to thank God?” Then Jesus told the man, “You may get up and go. Your faith has made you well.””
Luke 17:15-19 CEV
Everyone in our society is looking for a miracle pill to lose weight, gain energy, reduce stress, cure depression, cure anxiety, lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, increase sex drive, cure colds, cure joint pains, cure migraines, cure reflux, cure IBS, cure rashes, and on an on.
I have good news! I’ve discovered two miracles pills that exist in my opinion!
I call them miracles pills because they help so many of those conditions!
One is exercise (I know, you hate to hear that…).
The other is gratitude.
Gratitude has been scientifically proven to do all these things:
-bring you more business, friends, opportunities, and wealth
-improve overall physical health (reduce headaches, aches, and pains, increase exercise frequency, which also improves health)
-improve mental health (detoxes envy, resentment, and guilt)
-reduce road rage and temper
-help you sleep better
-improve self-esteem thereby decreasing depression
-improve resilience or grit
I used to always be one of the nine. I was incredibly blessed beyond my wildest dreams with a wonderful wife, great children, and thriving businesses!
But I didn’t see it…
And I was miserable. How foolish! How stupid was that!
Now, I work really hard trying to be the one that says thank you.
It starts with sliding on my knees as soon as I wake up thanking Him for giving me another day.
Then I open my Day One Journal (where I wrote all of these) and simply list 3 things I’m thankful for, usually as a recap of my previous day. I try to start all of mine with: “Thank you father for…”
Some call it “3 Wins”. And some do it at the end of the day.
Although my premise with everything is the morning so you can get your attitude right for the day, I really don’t care. Just try it! (Some people do this morning and night).
I also snap a lot of pictures with my phone. Of nature, on my walks, of my kids, whatever reminds me of something to be thankful for. I then post them in my Day One journal as well.
And I try to say thank you throughout the day for everything as I go. I could be driving my daughter somewhere after school. I could be shooting ball with my son. I could be having lunch with my wife, even if it’s canned tuna salad over spinach at home…
This doesn’t have to be a formal get on your knees stop everything Prayer. It’s just talking to your Good Father, letting Him know you appreciate all He’s giving you and doing in your life. I talk about this in the Prayer section of The 100X Life. Just like you love to hear your kids actually say thank you, so does He!
He’s good. He loves you. He wants to bless you. And He is blessing you! He just wants you to notice.
And by the looks of that list from science, you’ll be doing yourself a ton of good if you do!!!
